Privacy and cookies

The short version: no adverts, no tracking cookies and nothing from other companies. The site only stores something on your device when you ask it to remember a choice.

Done - your choices have been forgotten on this device.

Who runs this site

Renewably is a hobby project of Alexander Mackie, who is responsible for the information described on this page. You can contact me at hello@renewably.uk.

What's stored on your device

Nothing is stored when you simply visit, apart from a security cookie on the sign-in page. Otherwise the site stores something only when you make a choice, so it can remember it:

What it remembersKept for
Your region, whether you chose lowest cost or lowest carbon, and your tariff1 year
Appliances you save on the Appliances page1 year
Your car and charger settings, when you reopen a saved charging plan1 year
The charge level you last set on the EV charging pageUntil cleared

None of it is used to track you, and none is shared. To clear it all on this device:

Forget my choices

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. The site still works without them; it just won't remember your choices.

Counting visits

To see which pages are useful, I count visits without cookies. I use your IP address and browser details to tell visits apart, but I don't store them, and I can't link your visits from one day to the next. The counts are kept for 13 months. Calls to the site's API and the Ask Siri shortcuts are counted the same way.

To opt out, turn on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser; I don't count visits from browsers that send either signal.

Security

I keep records of attempts to sign in, including IP addresses, to protect the site. They're kept for up to 13 months.

Who sees it, and why

My hosting provider stores this information for me, in the UK. I don't sell or share it with anyone else. I use it on the basis of my legitimate interests: understanding how the site is used so I can improve it, and keeping it secure.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete information about you, or object to my use of it - write to hello@renewably.uk. Because visit records can't be linked to you, I usually won't be able to find any. If you're unhappy with how I handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
